We've been home now from our own little Heaven on Earth for over two weeks. We had an amazing time spending eight days in the sun and surf. Kai loved the beach and slowly came to enjoy the ocean also. The waves were a little scary at first, but after a couple of days, his fear disappeared and he ran back and forth from the surf to our beach chairs (over and over and over again!) We travelled with my parents and my sister and her son, Jackson. Jackson and Kai really love to play together so they both enjoyed spending the days together doing whatever toddlers do.
For the first time ever we rented bicycles at the beach. I can not tell you how much fun we had! Kai loved his perch on David's bike (look at the photo - his seat was in front of David's) and J.D. and Piper biked until they dropped each evening. There are over 30 miles of bike trails (almost all of which is along the beach) where we stayed so we never got tired of the scenery. We will never go to the beach again without bikes. We have found something that we all love and can do together - not always an easy task with our crew! Another interesting thing that Dave and the kids tried was deep sea fishing. Oh, how I wish you could hear their stories... Piper caught a pretty red vermilion (how perfect - a pretty red fish for a pretty redhead!) Dave caught a snapper that was too small to keep and J.D. caught a huge grouper - kind of. As J.D. was reeling in this big grouper, a shark grabbed his fish and ultimately won his prize. Everyone on the boat was watching J.D. fight the shark and he became somewhat of a celebrity after his failed efforts of keeping his fish. As you can see in the picture below, J.D. was able to salvage the grouper's head as a trophy.
The rest of our summer has been full of fun also. Piper has already been to theater camp and all the kids are going to VBS this week (thank you God for 3 hours alone each day this week!) Kai has been home for almost 7 months and of course, we are crazy about him! Enjoy the photos.
