Tomorrow we leave for Cincinnati - the mecca for children born with imperforate anus. Kai will undergo several tests (all requiring general anesthesia) on Friday and Monday. Depending on the results of those tests, Dr. Levitt will decide if more surgery is necessary. This is a change since I last posted. We thought that Kai was definitely going to Cincinnati for surgery, but after some really positive test results (from the week before Christmas), Dr. Levitt has backed off of the word "definite". To be honest, Kai does not have any of the main symptoms of a recto-urethral fistula. Most people (even his doctors and surgeons) can not believe he has this defect. Unfortunately, I know he has it (since I am the one that witnessed the evidence) and I will feel much better after Dr. Levitt gives Kai a thorough check-up and a clean bill of health.
We're going to try to make the trip as enjoyable as possible. I've heard that the aquarium is nice and depending on the weather, we may try to see the zoo. Of course on Friday night we'll stay in the hotel room to root for the Tide! If you know of anything fun to do in or around Cincy, leave a comment and we'll try to get to it. Also, we'd love to have your prayers for Kai. Regardless of whether or not he has surgery this week, we know he's going to be put under general anesthesia twice. Thanks so much. You guys are awesome!
I just sat down at my computer ready to write some funny Christmas stories. I was going to tell you what horrible things Santa put in the kid's stockings, how much I enjoying seeing the movie Twilight with my mother, and how I took my dad to the airport this afternoon. But right now I can not think of anything but Stellan. Many of you in the blogging world know McKMama and her sweet Stellan from My Charming Kids. Stellan is quite simply a miracle baby, who by all medical accounts, was supposed to die in utero. Stellan, however, is a fighter and his family has enormous faith, and because of that, Stellan was born perfectly healthy. Unfortunately, Stellan (now 8 weeks old) was just diagnosed with RSV and is in the PICU. He is very unstable right now and really needs our prayers.
So if you are reading this and you have a little faith, say a prayer for Stellan. He could use it right now.

In Chinese mythology the dragon is a divine creature that brings families abundance, prosperity and good fortune. The Chinese often consider themselves "the descendants of the dragon." As for elephants, well, we happen to live in the deep South and met while studying at the University of Alabama - Roll Tide! Alabama's mascot is Big Al, a rather friendly-looking pachyderm.
But the dragon and elephant have merged in a most unlikely way. You see, in addition to having two biological children, we have adopted three amazing children from China. Now we are a family of seven, our experiences chronicled on these pages. Read on to hear the day-to-day ramblings of this Southern family...
I've been married to my college sweetheart for 19 years and am the mother of 5 incredible kids, 3 of whom were born in China. I'm a retired cop (that never really looked like a cop) who currently spends her days wiping noses, driving carpool, and cheering multiple kids on from the sidelines. I love my life and sometimes can't believe that I've really got it this good. Because of that, I thank God for His amazing grace each and every day.
